Hofner Violin Bass

HOFNER 50TH ANNIVERSARY VIOLIN BASS

oooh , memories memories . For many years Macaris was THE place to buy a Beatle Bass in central London - and why not . Our roots lie in Tom Jennings' original Vox shop at 100 Charing Cross Rd that eventually became part of Macaris Musical exchange. It was there that my Uncle Larry was sales manager. He worked alongside Reg Clark , Gary Hurst , Dick Denney and all the other proud Vox employees who provided so many beat bands with their gear including of course , The Beatles .

So , we'd buy and sell lots of violin basses and sometimes , when something really special came by , we'd put it away . That's what we did with this one - well we left it on display but never tried to sell it . And to be honest maybe it was a bit expensive back in the day - now it seems like a bargain ! Why ? , well  . . . . . .

This really is a special bass , I'd go as far to say it's possibly the best violin bass Iv'e played ( don't let my own bass hear me say that - it will get upset ) . Its secret lies in the hand carved table of the guitar - Hofner had the tops carved by their classical craftsmen - the people who normally spent their time making cellos and double basses . I'm a huge violin bass fan - i think it's possibly one of the most musical sounding basses ever produced - but this one has something extra - extra response , extra resonance - it is superb .

can we get the piece for the humidifier thing

Over time in the shop , it has picked up a couple of superficial dings - but tiny , hardly worth a mention , but as whoever buys this is likely to be buying online I have to .

In comes house in a very good quality Hofner tweedy case with humidity control and includes its certificate
