1939 Gibson Kalamazoo Flat Top
The Kalamazoo - the guitar my Auntie Rosa had as a young girl !!!
Well - I liked that random fact anyway .
So the year this guitar was made America was seeing light at the end of the tunnel - the end of the great depression . Meanwhile in Europe World War 2 was about to erupt .
So it's not surprising that so few of these instruments made it to our shores.
What is surprising is that this one made it through all the 80 years with no breaks or repairs and very little playing wear .
We don't know it's story apart from at one point it had been used as a hawaiian guitar - maybe that explains the absence of fret wear, also it has obviously been a treasured and well cared for instrument .
These Kalamzoos were intended to be budget Gibsons - student models , but over time they have taken on a fan base of their own - their early bluesy tone is magical
This one is a peach - you;re unlikely to find a better example
