Tremolo

Feel the throb . . .

So what’s the big deal about a tremolo? Why is any tremolo different from another? Surely its just volume going up and down!

Well, on paper that’s true but listen to trems and they are all different. The secret is in the curve of the tremolo wave and how the note decays through it – this is what gives the sound its texture.

We like the sound of the tremolo on an old AC30 – that throb – that beautiful musical undulation. So when we make our trem we’re listening for sweetness as well as fast machine gunning, we listen for the tone becoming plumby and thick as the notes decay – oh, we think it looks pretty damn cool too.
It is said Phil Manzanera wouldn’t leave home without his so check out virtually any Roxy Music track to hear a Colorsound Tremolo or have a listen to Joe Bonnamassa’s ‘as the crow flies’ on ‘The Ballad of John Henry’ .
